Privacy Policy

This policy explains how QuizzyOwl collects, uses, stores and shares your personal information. We are a small team. We try to collect as little as possible, keep what we collect secure, and never sell it.

1. Who we are

QuizzyOwl is an online quiz platform operated from India by Pexels360 Solutions LLP, a limited liability partnership registered in Goa. The same entity collects payments for QuizzyOwl Pro and issues the tax invoices for them.

We are the Data Fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and the Data Controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation where that applies to you.

2. Age requirement

QuizzyOwl accounts are for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. By creating an account you confirm you are at least 18.

Some quiz topics are written for children. Those are intended for a parent, guardian or teacher to use with a child, on their own account. A child should not have an account of their own here.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we delete that account and its data promptly. If you believe a minor has registered, write to support@quizzyowl.com and we will act within 30 days.

Information you give us.
  • Account information — your email address, and a display name if you set one.
  • Sign-in data — if you sign in with Google we receive your Google email address, name and profile picture URL, and nothing else from your Google account. If you sign in by email, we send a one-time code to verify the address. We never hold a password for you, because there isn't one.
  • Quiz topics you type — the exact wording of every topic you request is stored, including requests we decline. This is how the same phrase reaches the same quiz page next time, and how we review what the system is turning away.
  • Billing details — for a Pro purchase, the state you select as your place of supply, which is required on a GST invoice.
  • Support correspondence — anything you email us.

Information we generate from your use.

  • Quiz results — for each quiz: the topic, difficulty, how many questions, how many you answered correctly, whether you passed, coins earned, and when you started and finished.
  • Individual answers — which option you chose for each question, whether it was correct, and how long you took. This is what lets us avoid showing you a question you have already seen, and what tells us when a question is mis-keyed.
  • Progression — your level, rank, QO Coin balance and the ledger of every coin movement.
  • Question reports — if you flag a question as wrong or unclear, we record that it was you, so that two reports from one person do not count as two.
  • Session data — a sign-in token, hashed before it is stored, with a 30-day expiry.

Information collected automatically. Your approximate location is read from your connection at the moment a page renders, so the topic suggestions on the home page can reflect where you are. It is used and discarded. We do not store your IP address or your location against your account.

Payments. Your payment is processed by PayU. We never see or store your card or banking details — those are entered on PayU's own pages. We keep a record of the transaction: amount, currency, reference, status, payment method, timestamp and the resulting invoice, linked to your account.

4. Quiz generation and Anthropic

This is the part worth reading carefully, because it is unusual.

Quizzes are written by an AI model provided by Anthropic (USA). When you request a topic, the words you typed are sent to Anthropic so a quiz can be generated for it, and so we can judge whether the topic is one we should build a quiz on. Existing question wording from that topic is sent alongside it, so the model does not repeat itself.

We do not send your identity. No email address, name, account identifier or quiz history is included. Anthropic receives the topic text and question text, not the person who asked for it.

Anthropic processes this under its commercial terms, which do not permit using the content to train its models. If you would rather your words never reached a third party, do not type anything into the topic box that you would not want processed — and note that quiz pages already built can be played without generating anything new.

5. How we use your information

  • To create and operate your account.
  • To generate quizzes on the topics you ask for, and to file those topics under the right category.
  • To record results, award QO Coins, advance your level and rank, and avoid serving you questions you have already answered.
  • To take payment for QuizzyOwl Pro, apply its benefits, issue your tax invoice, remind you before it ends, and meet our tax and accounting obligations.
  • To send essential account email: sign-in codes, a welcome message, Pro purchase and expiry notices. We do not send marketing email.
  • To find and withdraw questions that are wrong, using your reports and the pattern of answers across everyone who played.
  • To keep the service secure and to investigate misuse.
  • To comply with the law.

6. Legal basis

Under the DPDP Act (India), we process your data on the basis of the consent you give at sign-up, except where another lawful ground applies, such as compliance with tax law.

Under the GDPR, where it applies: contract for operating your account, generating quizzes and providing Pro; legal obligation for keeping invoices and transaction records; and legitimate interests for security, fraud prevention and improving question quality.

7. Cookies and browser storage

We use no advertising cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no session recording and no cross-site tracking. There is nothing here from an ad network. What we set is:

  • qo_session — an essential cookie that keeps you signed in. Without it you cannot have an account. It holds a random token, stored hashed on our side, and expires after 30 days.
  • qo_admin — the same thing for our own admin access. You will never have one.
  • qo_theme and qo_sound — kept in your browser's local storage, not sent to us. They remember which colour theme you chose and whether you want sound. Clearing your browser data resets them.

Because we set only strictly necessary cookies, there is no consent banner. Our Cookie Policy lists each one individually.

8. Who we share it with

We never sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers, only as far as they need it to do their job:

  • Vercel (USA) — hosting.
  • Neon (USA/EU) — managed PostgreSQL database.
  • Cloudflare (USA, global) — DNS.
  • Resend (USA) — sending transactional email.
  • Google (USA) — Sign in with Google, only if you choose it. We do not use Google Analytics or Google Ads.
  • Anthropic (USA) — quiz generation, as described in Section 4. Receives topic and question text, not your identity.
  • PayU (India) — payment processing.

We will disclose information if required by valid legal process, and only as far as strictly required.

9. International transfers

Several of the providers above are outside India and the EU. Where personal data reaches them we rely on their own safeguards, such as EU Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent contractual protections, and share only what is needed to run the service.

10. How long we keep it

  • Account, quiz results and coin history — for as long as your account exists.
  • Sign-in tokens — 30 days from issue, then they expire on their own.
  • The topics you typed — kept with the quiz page they resolved to, because that is what makes the page findable again. They are not linked to your account.
  • Payment records and invoices — retained for as long as Indian tax and accounting law requires, currently several years, even if you delete your account. This is a legal obligation and we cannot waive it on request.
  • Admin sign-in attempts, including IP address — 90 days, then purged automatically.

When you delete your account, your email, display name, results, answers, coins, level and reports are removed. Questions generated for topics you requested stay, because they belong to a public quiz page rather than to you, and carry nothing identifying.

11. Your rights

Subject to applicable law you may: request a copy of what we hold; correct anything inaccurate; delete your account and personal data, subject to the retention obligations above; receive your data in a machine-readable format; withdraw consent at any time; object to processing based on legitimate interests where the GDPR applies; and complain to the Data Protection Board of India, or your local data protection authority under the GDPR.

To exercise any of these, email support@quizzyowl.com from the address your account uses, so we can be confident it is you asking. We respond within 30 days.

12. Security

Encrypted transport everywhere, encrypted storage at rest, sign-in tokens hashed before storage, two-factor authentication on admin access, and least-privilege credentials for every service. Card details never reach our systems at all.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach materially affects you we will tell you, and notify the Data Protection Board of India — and your supervisory authority under the GDPR where that applies — without undue delay.

13. California residents

If you are a California resident you have rights under the CCPA to know what we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as the CCPA defines those terms. Email support@quizzyowl.com to exercise them.

14. Changes

We update this policy when our practices change, and the date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes are emailed to people with active accounts.
